Location: Große Freiheit 36
Date: 22.04.2016

Two years after the last show at the Markthalle Hamburg he returned to Hamburg – Axel Rudi Pell. With the amazing album “Game Of Sins” in the back the exceptional guitarist invited his fans in the Grosse Freiheit 36. The support band Mob Rules also had its new album “Tales From Beyond” up its sleeve. All pics you can see on Flickr.

For unusually early hour the North German power metal band Mob Rules started in their forty minute set. As for 11 p.m. already the next event was scheduled, the intro already sounded shortly before 7 p.m. Nevertheless, the Grosse Freiheit was well filled at this time. Since its founding in 1994, the band has released nine albums. On that evening, a cross section of the musical work was presented. Two songs from “Tales Of Beyond” got on the set list this evening. This was Power Metal at it’s best.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Axel Rudi Pell and his band entered the stage, the club was very well filled. Approximately 1400 fans have found their way to the Kiez in St. Pauli. The back catalogue of the 1989 founded band is even more extensive. With 17 albums, it certainly is quite difficult to assemble a set list for a tour. With “Fire” from their latest album the band started brilliantly. Many fans wished for “The Clown Of Is Dead” to be played at the tour, so this song made it to the setlist. Here Ferdy Doernberg could show for the first time, what for an outstanding keyboardist he is. The e-piano intro caused goosebumps. What a ballad. Huge was “Game Of Sins”, which was nestling between a keyboard solo and the drum solo by Bobby Rondinelli. And then after that came “Mystica”. Axel Rudi Pell also showed again what an outstanding guitar player he is. Of course, the band had to give an encore. Traditionally with “Rock The Nation” the evening ended shortly before 11 p.m.

Axel Rudi Pell and his band have shown once more that here five friends and exceptional musicians stand on stage and commemorate rock and metal at the highest level. And that with a unique playfulness. A great night, which unfortunately ended much too soon. Bye Axel Rudi, until next time!
