As The Earth Rotates
GOOT Feat. David Reece
It is no secret that Yan Fedyaev and I have worked together on many of his musical projects these past few years. It all began with the Metal On Loud anthem, for which Dissector adapted my lyrics to music. Not long after, Yan approached me to write some lyrics for their, then upcoming album, which became ‘Planetary Cancer’ and the start of a productive and mutually enjoyable working relation and friendship.
Fast forward a few years, several projects, many dozens of songs and a few albums, to today. This week, Yan sent me the finished recordings for the GOOT track ‘As The Earth Rotates’. It contains lyrics that have been on the shelf for quite some time, and the track itself has been under construction for a while as well, but listening to the end result I can’t but state it’s more than worth the wait.
‘As The Earth Rotates’ is the second GOOT song featuring the legendary David Reece (Ex Accept, Bonfire). Like last year’s ‘It’s Just Life’ (and to be honest, most of Yan’s work), the song has been produced to perfection. With this particular track though, it’s like stepping into a time machine, straight back into the eighties—just with even better production values.
The song offers a perfect blend of polished guitar shreds and catchy keyboard harmonies, and David’s vocals fit the song perfectly. His characteristic raw and melancholic classic metal voice lifts Yan’s composition to an even higher level, making it a track that’s worthy of heavy rotation in any metal playlist, and will leave you humming the song’s melody long after it ends.
When I wrote the opening lines for this song, which include the not-so-subtle Bon Jovi reference “Living on a prayer won’t get you very far,” I couldn’t have hoped for a better end result.
