Anneke van Giersbergen and Vic Anselmo–accoustic

How about to die away the week quietly? To do that, the stopover of Anneke van Giersbergen in Hamburg was a good option. Together with Vic Anselmo she was on a short acoustic tour across Europe.

The evening was opened by the from Riga (Latvia) coming singer-songwriter Vic Anselmo. The now in Bochum living singer could convince me with her clear voice from the beginning. She accompanied herself on her electric piano. In addition to her own songs, there were also two cover versions. “Mother Stands For Comfort” by Kate Bush could already be expected. But most impressed me the acoustic version of the Deep Purple hit “Burn”. The knowledgeable audience in the very well-stocked Rock Café donated a lot of applause for this performance.

About the Dutchwoman Anneke van Giersbergen doesn’t have to be told much. Thirteen years she was the singer of the progressive rock band “The Gathering”. After her exit, she launched her project “Agua de Annique”. In 2012 she released a studio album under her own name. Together with Arjen Lucassen she started the project “The Gentle Storm”. And now she stood on the small stage of the Rock Café, just herself and her guitar. She was welcomed with frenetic applause. The focus of the evening were acoustic versions of “old” The Gathering songs. But Fleetwood Mac (“Songbird”), Mr. Mister (“Broken Wings”) or Devin Tonwsend (“Ih-Ah”) were on the agenda as well. With a variety of funny anecdotes the singer led charmingly through the evening. Of course, Anneke van Giersbergen had to give an encore. With the Dolly Parton song “Jolene“ the evening should going to end, but the fans wanted more. Thus, the acoustic version of “Wish You Were Here” (Pink Floyd) povided the culmination of the show.
