keep pushing forward

Frozen In Time

About 4 months ago a band called “Frozen In Time” dropped us a line on our YouTube channel, promoting their music. Something about their demo just spoke to me. These guys have a fresh sound. Not only did I share their video on our channel, I decided to contact them on Facebook to see if they would be up for our On Stage competition in Metalheads Forever.

On Facebook I got in contact with Mark Hvid who plays guitar and does backing vocals for the band. A very nice guy. Of course they were interested, and we started working on their promotion material right away. Mark did not get all necessary materials in order in time for that weeks competition, so we moved him up a week. After all, he was more than interested in being our spotight band. Then something strange happened. Mark stopped responding.

For our competition we found another band willing to take their spot, but I am not one to stop wondering why someone just decides to drop off the face of the earth from one moment to the next, mid conversation. So in December I decided to give him another ping, to which he now did reply. It turned into a conversation stretched out over a few weeks, which eventually turned into an interview.

Presenting the story of a starting band with as much bad luck as heart and passion.

how are you man… been busy?

Hey man. I’m really sorry I didn’t get back to you. I really appreciate your offer of promoting the band, it’s very cool of you! We have been very busy. Been struggling with a lot of date screw ups on the studio recording session of our new stuff. That’s why I did not go further with the promoting that you offered, as we would like to get our new stuff ready for it

I hope you are well btw!

That sounds like quite a story. What happened?

Yea hehe. We got some dates for our recording session which got canceled because of a sudden offer he got. So right now we are planing further about the next recordings

Ah planning issues! I was already imagining production horror stories!

Hehe yea just planning issues luckily! We will get the recordings done.  No worries about that. The only thing is that we are not sure when exactly.

Do you have all your new material ready to go?

More or less. 4-5 songs and then we will do a music video for one of them and maybe a live rehearsal session too.

So it will be more an ep than an album?

Yes. I am not sure we are going to release it as an EP though. We haven’t figured that out yet.

I’m going to see our guitarist tonight actually who is more or less leading our promoting and tech stuff. I will discuss it with him i think.

Still lots to determine then! How does the new material sound?

Yea hehe always alot of planning involved haha.  Pretty different from the old stuff, but still Frozen in Time. Got a song in drop B, with some really heavy instrumental parts. A song really made for feeling the music. The other stuff is a bit higher tempoed, with the duo guitar riffs and melodics and blasting drums with some really catchy lyric and melodies.

Can’t wait to hear it! Do you guys write these songs as a band or do you have a designated songwriter amongst you?

We more or less always writes the melody as a band. Sometimes one or another makes up some riffs at home and we work from that. So it differs from time to time.

The stuff you are working on now, is the sound different from your earlier demo’s?

I think it’s quite safe to say that our songwriting has improved quite a lot over time. Through experience in general, but also because our own sound has become more defined. I think it’s a matter of small changes that add up to something bigger, and so the answer is yes – our newer music is quite different from that of our 2014 EP.

How would you describe your sound?

I think we can all agree to the idea of Frozen In Time being about aggressive and energetic riffs often combined with big, harmonic passages – all of it containing a touch of the progressive genre. When we play it live, the music features of course our lead singer, but also two backing vocals and harmonizing guitars in many occasions. The description in short would be melodic metal. We do like to emphasize the melodic part sometimes.

You are a relative new band. What are your goals for 2016? what would you like to accomplish?

Being a relatively new band it’s important for us to get out more. We haven’t played many shows in 2015, especially since our line-up changed and our main focus has been on writing new songs that we were more satisfied with. A lot of time has been spent doing studio work, and we are more confident with our set at this point. Our goal for 2016 will be to put out a new song or two and play live more.

If you could pick any 5 bands to go on tour with as an opening act, who would you pick and why?

Avenged Sevenfold. They have been a big inspiration to the majority of us, and that influence likely helped push us in the direction of the sound we’ve achieved. Oh, and they are an awesome live band.
Metallica. Metallica is probably the reason why we play metal. Metallica may or may not have inspired us as musicians, but they definitely made us pick up our instruments more through our teenage years. Also, while I haven’t given it much thought, I believe that as a young metal musician, you can’t not be inspired by Metallica, directly or indirectly. Also, they bring pyrotechnics to their shows, which is awesome.

Can we see you live anywhere, any time soon?

Plans for 2016 are in the making, but nothing is yet confirmed.

Any last words for our readers?

We will keep evolving as a band and keep pushing forward, and we are very excited for what the future will bring. We appreciate every bit of support we got, and surely  we will continue to produce lots of new music and hopefully be lucky enough to do a bunch of concerts, both small and bigger with our fellow musicians. So be sure to keep up, and hopefully we can reward your ears with some heavy metal.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us, I hope to see and hear more from you!
