Five hard working guys

Voodoo Sex Cult

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. I’m happy I started research for this interview on a Monday, you make music that bring the joy back to this greyest day! Can you tell us a bit about your music?

The music is easy to explain, it’s simply life. Weather it’s a party, the loss of a loved one, a relationship gone bad or simply a story about a person or situation. We write about everything that is encompassed in everyday life.

Who is Voodoo Sex Cult?

The Voodoo Sex Cult is a collaboration of 5 guys from 5 different walks of life. We have one common goal, to make the best music we can while having fun and entertaining our awesome fans.

How long has the band been together? How did you find each other?

We have been an active band for almost 4 years now. Tim and I (Royce) actually had a cover band for a few years and when that went south we took a little time off and then decided to do an original project with our music. We started as a 4 piece and when our original bass player left we brought on a new guitar player and a new bass player. Since then our drive has been relentless to write and play.

You use the stage names  The “Rev”, the Preachers Son, the Redneck, The Castilian and the Survivalist. What’s the story behind these names?

I (Royce) am an ordained minister, Tim is literally the preachers son, Doyle is a quintessential AZ mountain red neck, Pete is part Castilian, and Chris is a survivalist. These are all just personifications of our personalities.

You just released your first album, A Year and a day. What can you tell us about this release?

This is the first album by the Voodoo Sex Cult, and it is simply the collaboration of 5 guys who absolutely love playing and writing music.

Where did this album title come from?

The album title comes from a belief in the voodoo religion and many other religions. The belief is that when you die your soul or spirit wanders for one year and on the day after you are released to a higher plain in the afterlife. This is the next step in existence.

How does a VSC song get written, how does your creative process work? What comes first?

Our writing is really all over the place. Someone will come up with a guitar riff or a drum beat and we will all just interject. Sometimes I will have a lyrical idea or song lyrics written and I will sing it the way I feel it should sound and we just make music. The 5 of us just have a creative nitch when we get in the studio. We just try to write good music that people will enjoy or we would enjoy hearing.

Your songs have a high “sing along” value

We usually write just what feels write, if has a sing along value, hey, win win. We hope our fans sing along and have an amazing time.

Who are your biggest influences?

All forms of music and artist influence us. The list could be endless.

What will 2016 look like for VSC? Will there be touring?

2016 is going to be a busy year for us. We are currently working on another album, and there is defiantly plans in the works for some touring and a couple of videos are are in the works.

Any last words for our readers?

In closing I would just like to say, the Voodoo Sex Cult is taking this next year by storm. We are five hard working guys that absolutely love writing and making music. We do this more for our fans and the people that keep the scene alive. If you get to see us live, we are one of the most approachable bands you will ever meet. When we play live , we encourage our fans to hang out with us and to have a drink and get to know us and just have a great time and enjoy life.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us!
