To go a bit back but keeping the new sound

As you may have heard, Metalheads Forever and Metal On Loud Magazine are official media partners for the FemME festival that takes place in Eindhoven, The Netherlands in September. Each issue leading up to the festival we will put bands that play there in the spotlight. This month I had the pleasure of talking to Ailyn, the singer of Sirenia!

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us! You’re the first band that will play the FemME festival that appears in our magazine! Are you looking forward to the show?

Yes, we are very looking forward to the show! It’s going to be great 🙂

Which of the other bands that play there are you most looking forward to sharing a stage with?

Actually I’m looking forward to see all of them, I really like to see other bands playing. I can’t be quiet on the backstage while others are playing, so I always try to go out and see the shows.

What’s a Sirenia live show like? Why should we all come to see you?

Mmmmmm I might admit that I’m a very bad seller, so I think I will let you come to the show and discover by yourself ;).

What makes Sirenia different from most other female fronted acts out there, what do you think defines your sound and makes you stand out?

I really don’t know what to answer here, I never stoped to think about it. We just go to the stage trying to do our best so people can enjoy watching the show the same we enjoy playing for them.

You released your seventh studio album, The Seventh Life Path, through Napalm Records last year! What can you tell us about this release?

It was great, maybe a bit different to what fans were expecting, but we heard some nice things about that album

The sound on it, to me, differs a bit from it’s predecessor, Perils Of The Deep Blue from 2013. What did you do different this time?

Yes, it was actually quite different from “Perils of the Deep Blue”. I think Morten wanted to go a bit back to the first two albums but keeping the new sound. Fans were asking a lot about Sirenia’s old style so Morten tryed to mix the new with the old.

So far there’s always been 2 years between your releases. Does that mean you’re already working on the next album? What can we look forward to?

Actually a month ago I finished recording a demo for my vocal parts on what it will be the new album. There’s no release date or anything yet, but if you ask me I think the new album is a bit more modern than the last one, I think is following the direccion of the albums like “The 13th Floor” and “Perils of the Deep Blue”.

You wrote the soundtrack of the movie Abandoned Dead! That sounds very exciting. How did that come to be?

That song was not written for the movie, was writen as a intro for the album “Perils of the Deep Blue”, but they contacted us cause they really liked the song and wanted to use it for the movie soundtrack. And of course when they asked for that we felt very happy about it, is not too often that someone wamts to use one of your songs for a movie.

Other than the FemME festival, what other shows do you have planned for this year, where can we see you live?

Well for now Morten is working on that, right now there’s many things. But for now I think we just confirmed Coalescaremonium and Metalfest. Sadly we’ve been unlucky and our Chinesse/Japanese tour had to be cancel, but hopefully soon we can announce some more shows.
