I really don't give a fuck what you call it

Methane

Methane is a Swedish / American metal band formed in 2012 by brothers Tim Scott (Revenant / HatePlow), Dylan Campbell and Tim's long time friend and guitarist Jim Masterbo. The band recruited drummer Andreas Strom and the band was complete. They released an EP single entitled Southern Metal in 2014. They started touring with this EP single in 2014 in Sweden, Norway and the USA, the tour included The Rage of Armegeddon festival in Brooklyn and headlined Metal Inferno in Kramforst Sweden. In July 2015 Methane released a new single entitled Spit on Your Grave.
Methane is fast upcoming band with a lot of promise for the near future. With great music, a full-length album on the way, and upcoming shows, this is a band to watch out for.

How would you describe the music you make to people that don't know you?

We call it Southern Metal, others have called it thrashmetal. I really don't give a fuck what you call it. We play metal. A crossbreed of southern rock groove , with definate thrash roots.

How and why did you pick Methane as the band name?

It just came to me one day, we wanted a hard driven name. Couldn't find a band with the name on the net, perfect. Methane being an explosive gas just fit our vision. Kind of simple and in your face.

Who / What are your musical and non musical influences?

Musicly my writing blood flows from all the different veins of hardrock and metal. Wonderful angry music. My lyrics come from the wounds and scars I wear under my skin.

What are your dreams and goals for the band?

Conquer the world one beer at time! Seriously we love what we are doing you know? As long as we are haveing fun we want to see how far we can take it. Right now we have alot being booked here in Scandinavia and talk of a 2016 U.S. tour. We have a recorded album that we are shopping around. That is our main focus at the moment, giging and getting the album released in the best possible way.

Who writes the songs?

Everyone contributes to the writing. Usually one of us will have an idea, a basic structure and we build from there. If Jimi has a song idea, Dylan and I will add to it and visa versa . We usually write a song , destroy it, then rebuild it untill we are happy with it. It's a team effort , no egos , I love playing with these guys.

Where do you gather the inspiration for the songs?

Yeah like I said, I pull most of them out from life, it's traumas and pestilence and plagues. Life can be an ugly bitch mother.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Wake up coffee , check our socail media pages. I work , when I'm not working, I am working on band stuff, promotions, writing, bookings you name it. The real R'n'R lifestyle lol.

What inspires you to do what you do?

It's a drug, you can't shake the jones for. Thats the best I can describe it.

How does music and being in a band affect you?

I've been involved one way or another for as long as I can remember. It is a huge part of me , I would most likely implode without haveing this outlet.

What are the biggest obstacles for the band?

I guess they are the same for everyone else out there. Getting ourselves out there without loosing our shirt. Getting good deals for gigs. We have had a lot of luck, we have an awesome management backing us in the U.S. ( Voodoo Queen Management) and we are starting to break alot if bew ground here in Europe. I can't complain , this is lifestyle us self chosen.

What advice would you give to new, starting bands?

Go to shows, meet new people , network and support each other. This isn't a competition. Promote without intruding on people. Practice and have fun.

How do you promote your band and shows?

I combine the old and new schools of promoting. I just started writing a Facebook blog about band promotion and building a new metal scene. If you want to get inside my head on that you can check it out here-

Describe your show, visually and musically

Ha, well we don't have any canons blasting off or big light shows or upside down drumsets on rollercoasters. We climb over the moniters and beardbang, in your face. Its a metal party and  everyone is invited to .. come.

What was the most memorable show so far, and what made it so special?

I would have to say The Rage of Armageddon Fest in Brooklyn, NY in 2014. We played a few shows back home in the states including a great gig in New Jersey, but in Brooklyn we really got to play with legends. Whiplash, Blood Feast, Deceased, Hobb's Angel of Death, it was an awesome night with great bands.

How do you prepare for shows?

Practice! We practice alot! Before we go on, time permitting, we warm up. But rehearsal is key. I can't believe the number of bands that I have met that practice 1 time a week, there is no way you can ever be a great tight live band with that work ethic.

Do you get nervous before a show?

Sure, I've been doing this since a time before god and still get butterflies, but thats part of the high. It's just swallow that anxiety and channel it into the performance.

How do you handle mistakes during shows?

Well, since we practice.. We can cover even big mistakes. Last year in Trondheim Norway I triped over Jimis pedalboard, fell flat on my ass, kept playing. Mistakes happen, you have to just keep going, we are all on the same page so if we have to we pick up each others slack.

Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there

Now in February we are touring with our hometown friends , power metal band, Cryonic Temple here in Scandinavia. We are calling the tour 'Northern Thunder'. Then we are continueing to book festivals and shows here in Europe all spring. The U.S .is being discussed for the summer we have a couple metal festivals that we are talking to there as well. You should be there to have a good time, come with your drinkin' boots on ! Hope to see everyone out supporting the scene.
